COSTA RICA: Wildlife Conservation

[COURSE OVERVIEW]


Course Description (INTL 130)

This is a short-term study abroad course in which students will visit Costa Rica, be introduced to the social and geographic context of the country and explore issues of environmental challenges and sustainability. Students will participate in a number of pre-travel meetings in preparation for the experience, as well as a few post-travel meetings to synthesize their experiences. While in country, students will engage in service learning in a wildlife conservation project, which entails learning directly from members of the organization that they are visiting.

[ACTIVITIES & EXCURSIONS]

  • Work alongside conservation workers in their daily tasks

  • Interact with endangered, threatened, endemic and exotic animal species

  • Complete a project in support of the local organization

  • Visit multiple ecological zones

  • Visit the beach, river tour and zip lining


[ACCOMODATIONS]


Students will reside in volunteer accommodations on-site. All meals will be prepared and served on-site. During the excursion day, all meals are arranged and included in the program.

Program fee for NJ Residents: TBD

Program fee includes: round-trip international airfare; comprehensive pre-departure and on-site orientation; health & security insurance; on-site accommodations; most meals; all excursions and entrance fees; and in-country program transportation.
Program fee does not include: Tuition for 2 credits; US airport transfers; some meals, personal expenses

Late Fees : A late fee of $35 will be assessed for each payment not received by the payment deadlines communicated to you by the International Programs Office.
Note : There will be a 3-day grace period before a late fee is assessed.
