Program Description:
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Experience Japan in Summer is a 6-week program offered by the Asian Studies Program at Kansai Gaidai University. It offers invaluable experiences to those students who are interested in learning Japanese language and selected topics in Asian Studies.

ACADEMICS

Japanese Language Course (8 credits)

The combination of an elementary Japanese language course with lectures in the Asian Studies will lay a foundation for understanding about Japan and its people. Field trips and
student-organized activities will add an interesting hands-on experience to your learning.

Introduction to Asian Studies Course (2 credits)
(Culture/Manga/International Relations)

This course will cover three topic areas related to Asian Studies: Japanese Culture, Manga Drawing, and International Relations.

*During this program you will have the opportunity to meet/interact with Japanese local students as you will be paired with a local speaking partner who will also act as a student guide. Also, there will be additional events organized by local students.
**The maximum number of participants to be accepted will be 30 students. If the number of students does not reach 10 students, the program will be cancelled.

ACCOMMODATION

Summer program participants will be housed in our designated international student dormitory (i.e., Seminar House) with a roommate.

LOCATION

Kansai Gaidai's two campuses (Nakamiya and Hotani) are located in Hirakata city (pop.: 405,000) near Osaka city, the second largest business metropolis next to Tokyo. Hirakata is also close to Kyoto and Nara, both of which are synonymous with "Japan's rich tradition." This Geographic advantage provides students with easy access to the centers of Osaka and Kyoto in little over half an hour by train.

The program fee includes airport pick-up service (in Japan), tuition, housing, liability insurance, and some field trips.
Kitchen facilities are available in our student dormitory. You are expected to cook your own meals. Supermarkets are available within walking distance.
