Natuwa Macaw Sanctuary - Alternative Break Program 

El Manantial LogoThank you for your interest in Ramapo College's Alternative Break Program! The Civic and Community Engagement Center is proud to offer the Alternative Spring Break trip to Aranjuez, Costa Rica! The costs associated with the trip cover transportation, meals, lodging and some social events. We are excited for your application! It is important to know that all applications will be evaluated equally. There is no preference given to early submissions so please take your time with the answers and include all information you wish the committee to consider when reviewing your application.

Additionally, you must be available for THREE pre-trip meetings. The time and locations to be determined. All  meetings are absolutely MANDATORY. 


Applications due: Friday, October 02
Decisions mailed out: Wednesday, October 16
Confirmation of Acceptance: Wednesday, October 23
First payment due:  Friday, November 1
Second payment due:  Monday, December 2


You must submit a copy of your valid passport, or proof of application, no later than [DATE]  Applications without a valid passport will not be considered under any circumstances. 

NATUWA Macaw Sanctuary Aranjuez, Costa Rica
Costa Rica: Students will work with a Macaw sanctuary in Aranjuez, Costa Rica at NATUWA. Possible projects at NATUWA include feeding animals, maintaining agricultural fields, cleaning food/water dishes, cleaning cages, planting trees in the village and at the local school, painting the kindergarten classroom in the local school, and developing a program of environmental education for local school kids who visit the Project. Outings to a local beach, a trip to the Cloud Rainforest at Monteverde and more may be built into the itinerary. Students MUST submit a passport copy with their application.

Duration: 10 days
Available openings: 10 student openings are available.

Total Cost: $TBD (all inclusive: includes airfare, baggage fees, transportation, meals, lodging)
